The “Center” at the Extended University was established in 1992 so that corporations, governmental agencies, organizations, and individuals would have coordinated access to the vast resources of the university in order to advance economic development and life-long learning.



Research is one of three principle items in the mission of Illinois State University. To that end, faculty members were awarded over $20 million dollars in research grants during fiscal year 2005. Research is conducted by all 1,207 faculty with assistance from over 650 academic professional employees, 1,395 civic servants, 2,400 graduate students and over 20,000 undergraduate students. The high research standards of Illinois State University are recognized by the awarding of National Science Foundation grants.

Faculty and staff are available to provide onsite support, expertise, and guidance in a whole host of project areas. In addition, consultants may assist in developing Best Practices using the campus‘ state-of-the-art resources.

Certification program curricula may be custom generated from any subject offered through credit courses and-or within the expertise of faculty and staff.

Certification programs are typically 75 contact hours in length and may be conducted within the clients facility or on campus. Program scheduling is highly flexible.

In addition, the Center for Informatics conducts training workshops at community colleges and through the Capital City Center in Springfield, Illinois.
