The Extended University (EU) supports public service and outreach initiatives as well as civic engagement activities across the university through promotion, faciliation, documentation, administration, and financial management. |
![]() The Extended University promotes public awareness of public service and outreach initiatives and civic engagement activities through several vehicles: The University Calendar is a public calendar of university related events that displays more than 3000 events annually and boasts of more than 360,000 visits by individuals on campus and in the general public. The University Calendar is administered by EU with the assistance of over 270 EU trained campus calendar authors. The University's Public Service and Outreach Web site is a campus resource for information on current campus outreach and engagement. The Extended University maintains the content of this Web site. College and Main is a weekly half-hour television program that promotes University events and Outreach to the campus and community. The program is produced by TV-10 in conjunction with the Extended University. The Youth Guide is a comprehensive guide to camps, activities, and services offered at the university. Published annually, this guide is developed by the Extended University and distributed to all K-12 schools in McLean county as well as to libraries, museums, and other public locations. Camp Central is a published schedule of all camps held at Illinois State University. This brochure is developed by the Extended University each spring and distributed to all K-12 schools in McLean county as well as to libraries, museums, and other public locations. The Outreach Newsletter is distributed to the public, and university faculty and staff several times each year. The newsletter highlights university-wide initiatives and civic engagement activties. | ![]() The Extended University is engaged in the facilitation, administration, and financial support of many outreach initiatives. Most support is funneled through academic departments and colleges, or other administrative units. Examples of programs facilitated, administered, or supported by the Extended University include:
- The Accelerated Nursing Degree Program: The Extended University authored a $496,000 dollar grant on behalf of the Mennonite College of Nursing. | ![]() The Extended University collects statistics for ongoing public service and outreach initiatives. For example, in fiscal year 2006, over 200,000 individuals attended sporting events on campus, more than 90,000 viewed a performing arts event, and almost 90,000 participated in meetings and conferences on campus. In addition, EU documents activities in various reports including the Extended University Annual Report on Status and Progress.
