The Extended University (EU) assists corporations, governmental agencies, organizations and individuals in the utilization of the university’s facilities, resources, and expertise. EU promotes for-credit courses around the state through extended learning, non-credit training for the employed and underemployed, consulting and research facilitation, public service and outreach, civic engagement, conference facilitation, and a whole host of other non-traditional educational components taking place at the first public university in Illinois.



The Extended University facilitates Extended Learning through the coordination and logistical support for Extension, Internet, Contract, Flex, and Continuing Education courses, certificates, and programs.

In addition, the Extended University performs management for Continuing Education Units, Certified Professional Development Units, and the Alternate Programs Records System as well as acts as liaison to the Illinois Virtual Campus, Illinois Council for Continuing Higher Education, and the nationally-based Association for Continuing Higher Education.




Conference Services is a gateway for planning business, professional, and community conferences.

Conference Services plans and manages meetings at hotels and other sites from coast-to-coast. Services include management of conferences, seminars, and other events held on the beautiful park-like campus of Illinois State University.

The Extended University supports public service and outreach as well as civic engagement conducted at the university. Illinois State University has over 400 public service and outreach activities, programs, and services. EU inventories and promotes these activities through an Outreach Newsletter, a television program (College and Main), the distribution of a youth services guide (Youth Guide) and a camp guide (Camp Central), and the administration of the University Calendar as well as by other means.




The Gamma Phi Circus is the oldest collegiate circus in the world. Founded in 1929, the circus is made up of students majoring in programs from all colleges at Illinois State University. The Circus performs exhibitions throughout the year as well as a series of performances in Redbird Arena each April.

RESEARCH
Research is one of three principle items in the mission of Illinois State University. To that end, faculty members were awarded over $20 million dollars in research grants during fiscal year 2005. The Center for Informatics supports faculty research.

CONSULTING
The Center for Informatics‘ consultants excel at identifying the best solutions to specific tasks that meet the predefined needs of clients. Faculty and staff are available to provide onsite support, expertise, and guidance. In addition, consultants may assist in developing Best Practices using the campus‘ state-of-the-art resources.

TRAINING
The Center for Informatics offers professional non-credit certification training to corporations, governmental agencies, organizations, and individuals. Certification program curricula may be custom generated from any subject offered through credit courses and-or within the expertise of faculty and staff.

Currently, The Center for Informatics has customizable, certification programs in many areas of great interest to business: Business Intelligence, Business Leadership and Communication, Enterprise Application Development, Enterprise Architecture, Health Informatics, Information Assurance and Security, Project Management, and Quality Management.

In addition, the Center for Informatics conducts training workshops at community colleges and through the Capital City Center in Springfield, Illinois.
